Amsterdam Leg of Legal Geek Tour complete

What an amazing start to the Legal Geek Road Trip organised in collaboration with Nextlaw Labs. We met and interviewed 10 startups in The Hague and Amsterdam and jointly hosted a startup drinks in WeWork with Dutch Legal Tech with over 40 amazing guests.

Congratulations to all the winning startups who won free startup travel tickets to the Legal Geek Conference.

Our first 10 interviews, 100km in Betty and co-hosting an event: all within the space of 12 hours… the first leg of the #lgroadtrip was always going to be intense. Throw in some lovely people, sunshine, food and beers, and you’ve got a recipe for a lot of fun also. Happily, #lgroadtrip’s Dutch affair didn’t disappoint.

After interviews with Hiil in The Hague – ‘the city of peace and justice’, as Nathalie Dijkman put it – we arrived outside Amsterdam’s trendy Foodhallen to meet some of the rising stars and expert voices in an exciting Dutch startup scene. Inspiring conversations covered ground from the potential of technologies like blockchain and image recognition to ease the day-to-day of legal professionals; to the application of such technologies to social issues ranging from parking dispute resolution to the integration of immigrants. Thanks to all those we met, with more on these interviews to come.

After the interviews, on Betty’s back seats, we headed to our Amsterdam event in collaboration with Dutch Legal Tech Meetup, hosted by WeWork Amsterdam (with beer on tap!). First up, Jimmy and Julian captured the wave of energy and cooperation that Law Tech is bringing to the legal industry. Next, 6 pitches from exciting startups competing for free travel to complement the free startup tickets to Legal Geek’s October conference.

Encouraged by a crowd of over 40 people that included such talent as leading law firm Dentons, the entrepreneurs delivered quality pitches, making it difficult for the expert judges to pick a winner. So difficult in fact, that we decided to award travel grants to all 6 entrants – a fitting end to an event full of good will and cooperation. You’ll be hearing more from the 6 winners from us and others no doubt. Congratulations to all the winners listed above.

We celebrated a perfect start to the trip with an incredible Japanese feast courtesy of Guts & Glory. Next stop – assuming Betty can handle the autobahn – Berlin, and Friday’s event in collaboration with ELTA.
