Moscow you are beautiful! The first stop on our Around the World Tour led us to the Russian capital for a day spent visiting Moscow’s own silicon valley, the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, and an evening of start-up pitching, networking, and traditional Russian cuisine.

Fifteen start-ups pitched to win two travel grants to attend the Legal Geek Conference on October 17 in London. The judges were Holger Zscheyge, the Managing Director of Infotropic Media; Anton Pronin, the LegalTech Director at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre; and Andrey Neznamov, Counsel at Dentons and the Head of the Robotics and AI Regulatory Research Centre.

It was incredible to be in Moscow to kick off the Legal Geek Around the World Tour and great to hang out with Nextlaw Labs and Nextlaw Ventures in another city! The scale of Moscow’s ambition to create a startup hub / city at Skolkovo was mind-blowing.The event in the evening, organised with the legendary Holger Zscheyge, showed a growing and buoyant legal tech scene, comparable to all the European cities we visited last year in our 2017 European road trip. We ended up with 15 startups pitching which was significantly more than we had expected. It is clear how vibrant and strong the startup ecosystem is in Russia. One to watch.
